Description:

An Ed Dubois design for Westerly, intended to compete in the mid-80s yacht market with French imports from Beneteau, Jeanneau and Dufour. The Merlin is a modern-styled yacht with good accommodation and sailing performance, plus Westerly’s solid build quality. The last of the range were sold as Merlin 29s, with a small extension to the transom. Under her current ownership, ‘Excalibur’ has been regularly sailed to the Channel Islands and along the Brittany coastline.

 

Engine(s) & Electrical:

Volvo Penta MD2, 18hp diesel. Maximum speed under power: 8kts. 3 batteries (2 leisure, 1 engine) charged from the engine. Solar panels. Shore power. 240v battery charger.

 

Accommodation & Below Deck:

Opening hatch to deck, saloon seats on both sides, saloon table, coolbox converted to a fridge with a thermostat, stainless steel sink with manually pumped water supply, 25 gallon fresh water tank, hot air heater, chart table with all electric equipment, separate starboard marine toilet and wash basin, twin forecabin, CD stereo, the forecabin berths are 72″ long along the vee, with an infill to make a double berth if required. The saloon has a shortish single berth to starboard, with the aft end of this berth forming the seat for the aft-facing chart table. To port in the saloon is a settee with an infill to make a double berth 74″ x 39″. The aft cabin has a berth 74″ long, and 54″ wide at the forward end. Saloon headroom is 6′. Aft of the chart table to starboard is a small open-fronted hanging space for oilies, and the door to the heads compartment.

 

Deck & Canvas:

Andonised aluminium mast and boom, 3 stage refffing leading back to cockpit, roller reefing headsail, cruising chute, anchor with chain, stainless pulpit/pushpit, stanchions & guard wires, teak coach roof grab rails, mainsail cover, lazy jacks, sprayhood (new), spray dodgers (brand new but not fitted), stainless boarding ladder, various fenders.

 

Navigation & Safety:

VHF, Navtex, GPS, autohelm, echosounder, compass, navigation lights, fire extinguishers, fire blanket, gas alarm, cockpit harness, radar, horseshoe life body, bilge pumps, life raft, 5 lifejackets.
